(Batholith)

(Laccolith)

(Lopolith)

Bushveld lopolith

(Phacolith)

(Dyke)

(Sill)

Whin Sill

Volcanic Eruption creates two types of landforms -

External Landforms → which are formed on the surface

Internal Landforms / Intrusive Landforms → which are formed by the solidification of magma inside the earth's surface

You have asked about internal landforms, so let's understand them in detail 👇

🌋 Internal landforms created by volcanic eruption

When magma cannot reach the surface and cools and solidifies within the layers of the earth, it creates various internal igneous structures. These are called Intrusive Igneous Landforms.

1. Batholith

The largest internal landform.

When a very large amount of magma cools down inside the Earth.

It is usually found under mountainous regions.

👉 Example: Batholith under the Himalayas and the Alps.

2. Laccolith

Dome-shaped internal landform.

It is formed when magma gets trapped under a layer and bulges upward like a dome.

👉 Example: Rocks of Mysore region of Karnataka.

3. Lopolith

It is the reverse form of laccolith.

Here the layers collapse from above and the magma forms a saucer-shaped extension.

👉 Example: Bushveld lopolith of South Africa.

 4. Phacolith

This is a dome-shaped rock structure formed by solidification of magma in the valleys or peaks of folded layers.

👉 Example: Some mountainous regions of England.

5. Dyke

When magma solidifies by filling in cracks in vertical direction.

It passes through the rocks cutting them.

On cooling, it forms a hard structure like a wall.

👉 Example: Deccan Trap region (Maharashtra).

6. Sill

When magma solidifies by filling in horizontal cracks.

It spreads parallel to the layers.

👉 Example: Whin Sill of Northern England.

 🔑 In short

The internal topographies formed by volcanic eruption are-

Batholith: Huge igneous rocks formed at depth.

Laccolith: Dome-shaped structure.

Lopolith: Saucer-shaped shape.

Phacolith: Magma frozen in folds.

Dyke: Rocks frozen in vertical cracks.

Sill: Rock frozen in horizontal layers.
